Durgasagar Dighi is located in Babuganj next to Banaripara Nesharabad road in Barisal district. It is located 12 km away from Barisal city. It is rumored that in 180 AD, the then king of Chandradwip Pargana, Shiva Narayan, dug this lake to alleviate the water crisis in the area. It cost three lakh rupees to dig this lake. It is also known that the lake was dug as far as his wife Rani Durgavati once walked. Queen Durgavati walked up to 61 acres of land to dig the lake. That is why the lake is named Durgasagar after Queen Durgavati.


Durgasagar Dighi has three ghats on three sides and a small island in the middle. The surroundings of Durgasagar Dighi are quite beautiful and tidy. Durgasagar Dighi is also known to the locals as Durgasagar Madhabpasha Dighi. Visitors cannot help but be fascinated by the natural beauty of the lake. If you want to go to Barisal by road, you have to take all the buses that leave from Gabtoli for Barisal. Hanif Paribahan, Eagle Paribahan, Shakura Paribahan go from Dhaka to Barisal. The bus leaves Gabtali from 6 am to 10 pm. It takes 7-8 hours to reach Natullabad bus stand in Barisal. AC and non AC buses cost 500-600 rupees. However, going to Barisal by local bus will cost only 250-300 rupees. If you go by local bus, you have to spend hours on the bus.


Barisal by water

The best waterway to go to Barisal. Launches from Sadarghat in Dhaka to Sundarban 7/8, Survi, Kirtankhola etc. leave for Barisal at 8-9 pm. Arrives at 5/6 in the morning. The deck rent is Rs 150 but the double cabin rent is Rs 1,500 and the VIP cabin rent is Rs 4,500.
