 The various historical establishments of our country still hold their past history and heritage and present their existence in their own glory. These historical sites in each district are one of the beauties of the country as well as a tourist attraction. Dinajpur, a traditional district of North Bengal, also has many such places of interest. One of them is Nayabad Mosque. If you visit Dinajpur, you must include the traditional Nayabad Mosque in your travel list.


The location of this mosque is in Nayabad village of Kaharol upazila of Dinajpur district. The Nayabad Mosque is located at a distance of 20 km from Dinajpur city. Next to the mosque is the Dhepa river. The 224-year-old mosque has a well-known past history. This ancient mosque is one of the places of interest in Dinajpur due to its historical significance. Tourists from different parts of the country come to see this ancient mosque.


Nayabad Mosque

About three hundred years ago, the then Maharaja Prannath of Dinajpur decided to build a temple at Kantnagar village in Kaharol upazila. This temple is now known as Kantnagar Temple. The Maharaja brought a group of artisans from distant Persia to build this temple. Each of the artisans was a devout Muslim.


During the construction of the temple, they used to pray under the open sky next to the temple. Meanwhile, the chief of the artisans, Neyaz alias Kalua Mistry, went to the Maharaja and recommended the construction of a mosque for their prayers. The Maharaja gave permission and donated 1.15 bighas of land in the village of Nayabad for the mosque. The artisans then built the Kantnagar temple as well as the mosque.


If you visit this mosque, you will see the inscription written in Persian at the entrance. The inscription says that it was built during the reign of Emperor Shah Alam II in 1200 Bengali years (1793 AD). The main attraction of this mosque is the huge three domes across the roof of the mosque. These domes add a unique dimension to the beauty of the mosque. The four octagonal minarets measuring 12.45 m and 5.5 m in the four corners of the mosque add to its beauty. The thickness of the walls of this mosque is 1.10 meters.


Nayabad Mosque

The mosque has three entrances. The north and south walls of the mosque have one window and three arched mihrabs on the west side. Which are built on the west side wall along the three entrance doors to the east side wall of the mosque. The middle of the three domes is slightly larger than the other two.


At the front there are 109 rectangles at a certain distance and across all the walls. The terracotta terracotta designs are rich in herbs and flowers. Although these are now almost extinct. Arrangements have been made for movement and seating for tourists in the mosque area. With this mosque tour, you can also see the beautiful Dhepa river next to the mosque.

Nabil Paribahan, Hanif Enterprise, SR Travels, Keya Paribahan, SA Paribahan, Shyamoli Paribahan have AC and non-AC Dinajpur bound buses from Gabtali and Kalyanpur in Dhaka. Rent 500 to 900 rupees. You can easily reach Nayabad Mosque by autorickshaw from Dinajpur city.
