Comilla is a metropolis located on the southeastern tip of Bangladesh along the Dhaka-Chittagong highway. Comilla is said to be the third largest city in Bangladesh after Dhaka and Chittagong. The city is famous all over the world for its khadi cloth and rituals. Comilla district, rich in education and culture, also has a number of famous historical places of interest. Comilla Buddhist Monastery -

 

Comilla district is a district in Chittagong division with an area of ​​3085.18 sq km. It is bounded on the north by Brahmanbaria and Narayanganj districts, on the south by Noakhali and Feni districts, on the west by Munshiganj and Chandpur districts, and on the east by the Indian state of Tripura. The most notable of the thousands of historical monuments in Comilla district is the 'Grand Trunk Road'! This road, one of the oldest in the subcontinent, passes through the town of Comilla. At present, the most important highway in Bangladesh, the Dhaka-Chittagong highway, passes by Comilla. There are thousands of places of interest in Comilla for travelers. Two such notable and historic places are Ananda Bihar and Mainamati Museum. So let's find out about these two places.

 

Ananda Bihar

Ananda Vihar, an ancient archeological site in Bangladesh, is located at Mainamati in Kotbari, the most historic place in Comilla district. The largest of the ancient temples, this temple was the last Buddhist university in the subcontinent. In the middle of the huge space there is an impossibly beautiful central temple and a dighi. Surrounding the temple are the rooms of the monks. There are various archeological artifacts recovered from Bihar, such as 63 silver coins, bronze statues, copperplates, and many more.

 


Ananda Bihar, Comilla -

 

It is believed that Ananda Bihar was the capital of Samatata in the late seventh century. It is said that Sri Anand Dev, the third ruler of the Dev dynasty, built this Ananda Vihara around the 7th or 8th century. But in 1943-45, the authorities thought of excavating Ananda Bihar. However, the excavation work is still incomplete. Only the south side of the temple has been excavated. For the most part there is still a lot of excavation work left. You can visit this interesting place surrounded by extraordinary beauty and it will bring some peace in your busy life. This is a beautiful place to visit with family or friends.

 

Mainamati Museum:

The Mainamati Museum was established in 1985. It is located on the north-south side of Kotbari Shalban Bihar in Comilla. Numerous valuable archeological specimens were found during the excavations at Kotila Mura, Itakhola Mura, Rupban Mura, Charpatra Mura, Ananda Bihar, Srivabadev's Maha Vihara, Rani's Bangla and Bhojraj's Bari Bihar in Comilla. The museum was originally built to preserve and display all these artifacts and to present the millennial history to the people of the 21st century.

 


Mainamati Museum, Comilla -

 

The museum is located at Salmanpur, 14 km from Comilla. The museum preserves various artefacts from the 7th and 8th centuries from different places in Comilla in 42 different archives. These include bronze, copper, terracotta plaques, gold and silver coins, small and large bronze and stone statues, iron objects, and manuscripts of ancient manuscripts.

 


The Mainamati Museum is open from 10 am to 5 pm. It is open five days a week except Sundays and Mondays. Normally the entrance fee is 20 rupees but children below 5 years can enter for free. The entrance fee for the citizens of SAARC countries is 100 rupees per person and for the citizens of all other countries the entrance fee is 500 rupees. If you want to enjoy the old tradition and its patterns, you can definitely visit this museum in Comilla.

 

How to go:

You can use both bus and train from Dhaka to Comilla. The buses include Asia Line, Royal Coach, Prince, Trisha and Asia Aircon. There are two types of systems, AC and non-AC. Comilla Cantonment can also be reached by using any Chittagong-Fenigami bus. After reaching the cantonment, you have to take any autorickshaw or CNG to reach inside the fort.
